I love photographing engagement sessions, especially ones that take place in multiple locations. Because I never like to put a limit on things, I always offer my couples an unlimited amount of places where they can take their engagement photos.

On June 8th, I had the pleasure of doing that for Shelby + Benz, a happy young couple that will be getting married in October of 2022.

They wanted to do a session in multiple places around Birmingham, Alabama, and I was more than happy to oblige. I’m so glad that I did because it turned out to be a great session and experience.

The engagement session actually started in Shelby + Benz’ home because they wanted to incorporate their four-legged friends in the shoot. I’m always up for having pets in photos because why wouldn’t you want pets in your photos?

These laid-back lifestyle-type photos at home set the stage for the great locations that came later in the session.

After we did the in-home session, Shelby, Benz, and I headed down the road a bit to the lovely Birmingham Museum of Art. This was the first time I did an engagement session inside the museum, and it was an aces experience.

I had a great time admiring all the wonderful pieces of art in the museum while taking some super cute photos of Shelby + Benz. We made use of as much of the museum as possible and even did some outdoor photos in the quaint museum courtyard.

Once we finished up at the Birmingham Museum of Art, we took a quick drive through downtown Birmingham and headed to Good People Brewing.

That is where Shelby + Benz enjoyed a tasty Good People beverage and got some more laid-back lifestyle photos inside the brewery and outside on the patio.

To finish the session, we all headed to somewhere that doesn’t initially sound like a good place for an engagement shoot.

A rock quarry.

Specifically, we headed to Wade Sand & Gravel. Shelby had seen some photos taken at the quarry and fell in love with them. When she showed me, I had a similar reaction and definitely wanted to do some photos at the location.

The quarry provided some unique and distinct backgrounds and looks for the engagement photos. It was like we were in a desert setting, which is not something you’d find anywhere around Birmingham, Alabama.

It was a great location to close out a fantastic engagement session!

I want to thank Shelby + Benz so much for choosing me to take their engagement photos. It was a pleasure, and I want to wish them all the best in their future together.

Now please enjoy this sampling of photos from Shelby + Benz’ engagement session in Birmingham, Alabama!
