The Elyton Hotel + In the Making + Galley and Garden | Birmingham, Alabama
The 2019 wedding season for DSmithImages Wedding Photography, Portraits, and Events kicked off with a bang on April 12th as I got to photograph Mary Margaret and Greg’s lovely springtime wedding in and around the Birmingham, Alabama area.
The happy couple made use of a couple of different locations for their pre-wedding photos, the wedding ceremony, and their reception dinner.
The day started at the elegant and stylish Elyton Hotel in the heart of downtown Birmingham. This is where Mary Margaret got ready and where the happy couple had their first look.
The hotel was a wonderful spot for this event because it allowed us to use their rooftop bar, complete with the skyline of Birmingham as a backdrop for the photographs. Mary Margaret and Greg got to see each other for the first time on their wedding day with the architecture of the Magic City surrounding them.
After a few photos inside the Elyton Hotel’s lobby area, Mary Margaret, Greg, and I went just down the street to make use of historic Morris Avenue, a spot that’s always a popular one for photographs.
Once the pre-wedding photos were done, everyone headed over Red Mountain to the Cahaba Heights area for the actual wedding ceremony. Mary Margaret and Greg’s ceremony took place at the quaint and lovely yarn store known as In the Making.
The owner is a friend of Mary Margaret’s, and she opened her store up to the couple, their families, and friends. The space was so festive, colorful, and lively.
I always love getting to photograph wedding ceremonies in unique locations, especially if they have a special meaning for the couple. Mary Margaret had some of her knitted work on display while knitted family heirlooms were also featured in the ceremony.
Speaking of knitting, Mary Margaret even knitted the socks that Greg and several others wore to the wedding.
When the wedding ceremony was complete, everyone went back over Red Mountain and to Highland Avenue in Birmingham for the reception dinner at Galley and Garden.
The restaurant’s location and the upstairs balcony provided a great spot to celebrate the newlyweds. Mary Margaret, Greg, and their guests enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the staff at Galley and Garden as a way to put a wonderful exclamation point on the evening.
I’d like to extend a huge word of thanks to Mary Margaret and Greg for choosing DSmithImages Wedding Photography, Portraits, and Events to document their wedding day.
I wish them all the best. I’d also like to thank their friends and family for making me feel right at home throughout the day, and the staff at the Elyton Hotel, In the Making, and Galley and Garden for providing such great spaces and locations.
