Hello… My Name is David A. Smith
I’ve been a full-time photographer since 2010. That’s when I left an office job I hated and decided to go down the rabbit hole that is photography.
It’s been a wild ride ever since, but it’s been one that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
My work has allowed me to go all over the United States to work with fantastic people, and I hope to do the same for you.
My photos might not look like the others you see out there, and that is by design. I want my photos to have a dream film-like look that is heavily influenced by the history of cinema.
Let me just say I don’t like to do things like all the other photographers out there. When everyone zigs, I like to zag.
I’m a big fan of motion pictures, and I have a degree in Critical Film and Television Studies. The profile picture on this page was taken of me volunteering at the Sidewalk Film Center & Cinema in Birmingham, Alabama, which is where I spend a lot of time when I’m not on the road.
For my wedding + elopement photography work, I love working with couples on their special day and providing them with memories that will last a lifetime. This field has afforded me some wonderful opportunities, and I continue to enjoy what it brings to me.
The same goes for my portrait work, which has primarily become doing graduation and high school senior portrait sessions. I love getting to work with upcoming graduates and helping celebrate such an important time in their lives.
Don’t worry, I’m still available, of course, for lifestyle and family sessions and special non-wedding events.
In addition to those fields, I’m also proud to showcase my work as a concert photographer. I’ve been an Entertainment Contributor for Getty Images since 2013, so I have an extensive background in photographing concerts of all sizes in the areas of Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia.
Most wedding and portrait photographers probably can’t say they’ve had pictures in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and nearly all the other major publications out there, but I sure can.
I used to think I should keep my concert work separate from my wedding and portrait work, but now I want to make sure they’re shown all in the same place. Each field informs and inspires the other.
Thank you for visiting, and I do hope you like what you see!
